Rachael McCarthy

Rachael McCarthy is a Triathlete competing in the 25 - 29yr AG. Rachael is an absolute weapon! We are super excited to have her on board & watch her grow through her career. When partnering with Rachael we sat down & asked her a few questions

  1. Who are you and what’s your favourite thing about your sport?

My name is Rachael McCarthy and I’m an age group triathlete currently juggling work, uni and triathlons with the big goal of going pro. I did my first triathlon way back when I was about 8 years old and since then have been competing in them on and off for fun. In 2023 I moved to Sydney, joined the Sydney Triathlon Group, got a coach and have seen a huge progression in my ability. I'm super excited to see where the sport can take me in the future. My favourite part of triathlons is the community that gets around training and seeing your mates out on the race course, its so exciting to see everyone smashing their goals.

    1. What is your favourite Training House product and how has it impacted your performance?

My favourite product from Training House is the Pillar Triple Magnesium Powder. Since it tastes great, it's much easier to take magnesium consistently and part of my everyday routine. I find this especially important when I have a high training load and need some extra help with recovery. Sleep is the number one recovery tool for me and magnesium helps to ensure the the time I spend in bed is quality.

    1. Can you share a key piece of advice for fellow endurance athletes?

I think the most important thing is finding your why when you're training for a big event. Endurance sport is a mental game as much as a physical one and motivation for training will come and go. If you have purpose behind your training, waking up at 5am to go for a swim when its cold and rainy outside isn't debatable, you just do it because it will get you closer to your goal. Accepting that some days will feel amazing and like you're on top of the world and others will feel exhausting is all part of the process and makes achieving that goal mean so much more.

    1. What’s been your favourite memory throughout your whole career?

I hope that this is just the start of my triathlon career but during the time I've been doing the sport, my favourite memory would be riding my bike with my Dad to our local pool for a swim and jumping back on the bike to ride home. It felt like such a big adventure back when I was 13 and I now really appreciate the quality time we got to spend outdoors just exercising for the fun of it.
